Academic Intervention and Enrichment Programs

2008-2009

WEMS Enrichment Program for Advanced Students:

This program will provide students who are advanced on TCAP for Language Arts/Reading and Mathematics opportunities to apply their knowledge of mastered Tennessee Standards to projects/activities. Technology will be incorporated into the activities and students will complete academic projects. Students will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00pm – 5:00pm beginning January 13, 2009.

WEMS Robotics Enrichment Program:

This program is for all students at WEMS who are interested in expanding their scientific knowledge. The teacher will provide opportunities for students to apply their scientific knowledge and participate in activities including district, state, and national competitions. Students will meet on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 4:00pm – 5:00pm beginning January 13, 2009.

WEMS ELL Academic Intervention Program:

This program will provide English Language Learner (ELL) students an opportunity to work with ELL teachers on learning strategies and increase their mastery levels in mathematics and language arts. ELL teachers will use Kagan strategies and other manipulatives to provide students with a better understanding of material covered throughout the school day. Students will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00pm – 5:00pm beginning January 13, 2009.

WEMS Supplemental Education Services Program:

Supplemental educational services are free tutoring and other educational interventions that target students on free or reduced lunch in Title I Schools. This program will: ensure that students increase their academic achievement, particularly in the areas of reading/language arts and mathematics; provide options to parents to help them ensure that their children receive a quality education; and provide incentives to schools to improve schools in need of improvement. SES will meet on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 4:00pm – 5:00pm beginning December 18, 2008.
